Day 5 Summary With Joseph

Blogger’s Note: Apologies to Joseph on this video. I had my focus set  when I stepped away from the camera to conduct the interview. Unfortunately, Joseph adjusted where he was standing in order to speak directly to me and inadvertently stepped out of focus. That’s my bad. To concerned family and friends of Joseph back home: I assure you he wasn’t at all fuzzy in real life. That is a trick of the camera lens.  By the time I recognized the problem, Joseph and the other boys were enjoying his mom’s gift at Starbuck’s and I felt the best thing to do was get the video out rather than reshoot it. (Currently, it is almost 11:30 p.m. and would have been closer to 3:00 a.m. before it was posted had we reshot.) Again: Apologies to Joseph and the viewing audience. Do not adjust your set. That is simply the videographer’s weakness, spawned by fatigue and a solid helping of creative burn out. We are considering starting up a support group.

    To the whole Team:

I have to congratulate every single one of you on such a great accomplishment. (Okay, ongoing accomplishment.) Because of the time difference between the East Coast of the United States and the East Coast of Africa, I am able to enjoy all of your stories from the day before with my morning coffee while you guys are probably unconscious with exhaustion and sleeping like babies. It brightens my day to hear about your adventures from the day before, and to know that you will get up refreshed (hopefully) and excited (probably) about the next day and what it will bring for you. Never doubt that you are all brave; never doubt that you are all an inspiration, even for those whom you’ve never met. I am so glad that Logan is part of your group and that he has been given this opportunity. Bless all of you,

    Melissa (Logan’s auntie in Africa)
